Just depends on how badly damaged the cables are. You might get away with just replacing the battery cables terminations. (the contact points which connect to the battery terminals) Research: 1989 honda prelude battery cables You might even notice when you search diagrams to show you how and where to make the correct connections.

Follow Up: Just so that you're aware of the dangers associated with doing a job like this yourself. Battery acid is very corrosive and one should wear old cloths as well as latex/rubber gloves and eye protection. Several things could occur.. when using metal or forged tools, and if you make a cross termination contact the battery could explore in your face. The protocol for the removal of the cables should be as follow.. Disconnect the cables, dislodge and remove the battery, then disconnect the cables from the car's grounding zones and starter. This is not a hard job, just requires tact. GL
