2012 ram radio cuts in and out

Asked by Alfred Aug 02, 2018 at 09:31 PM about the 2012 RAM 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The radio in my 2012 Ram has no sound when in
AM/FM mode and there is a slight pop every 5 to
10 second through the speakers. In CD, Aux, and
XM mode there is sound for about 5-10 seconds
then there is a pop and no sound for several
seconds, then sound comes back for another 5-10
seconds then it pops again and sound goes out.
This repeats over and over, also when the sound is
out the volume knob doesn't work, it works when
the sounds is on.

No unfortunately I have not. I've had it to the dealer and they told me they have seen the problem before and it is probably a bad volume knob and I would have to just replace the radio. If that is the problem, maybe someone good at electronics repair could fix it but I'm not sure. I haven't tried to do anything to it though other than cleaning it out with electronics cleaner.

Has anyone found a fix to the music pausing and popping noise? Mine has been doing it for a week straight, it's getting really annoying trying to listen to music.

Mine just got resolved. It happened in my company vehicle so my company paid to have it diagnosed. They said it’s something internal in the radio that can’t be repaired. They then replaced the radio and everything works as it should now. Don’t waste your money for anyone to”diagnose” the radio. You just have to simply replace it

My problem was an antenna issue the radio mp3 cd player always had power but because of the antenna Male adapter was sodered right to the circuit board became loose causing the radio to loose it's signal intermittently as well as popping noises through the speakers. I simply replaced the whole system. Good to go now cheers

I have a 2012 Ram, Radio wouldn't play on AM/FM, everything else worked ! If you turn the radio on, put it on FM, turn the volume up a little, then push the phone button you will hear the setup menu start. At any time push the phone button again, the radio will play !!

My 2012 dodge ram has done this for very long time finally a mechanic told me that it's in emergency mode to protect the system. In my case I blew one the speakers in my dash specifically the one on drivers side in dash. Once this is replaced it will come out of emergency mode.

I have the exact same issue as described above in a 2012 Ram 1500. I got a used radio from a scrap yard and have experienced the same issues immediately. Checked the two fuses in the box and both are fine. Watched some youtube videos on a sneak third radio fuse in the engine bay itself, but that doesn't seem to exist on the 2012. Thinking now it must be some sort of wiring issue or ground thats causing the radio to immediately go into protection mode. Sorry nothing of value to really add to the problem other than a new factory radio doesn't necessarily solve things.

I took my 2012 Ram truck to the detailers and when I picked my truck up my radio started to malfunction. Took it to the dealers they quoted $2,600.00 to replace the radio. Did my own research, long story short... the detailers had sprayed my radio and messed up the Uconnect. To replace the Uconnect was $500. Hope this
