I believe factory spec may be 5W30 for fuel economy, but as papa says, any 10W30 or 10W40 should be fine depending on the conditions (temps) you drive in.
Do NOT run 10W40 motor oil in a modern vehicle, to include any American manufactured vehicle from late 1980's to present. The last American made vehicle to allow 10W40 was built in the mid 1980's. 10W30 is the heaviest oil for anything newer than that any American vehicle's engine should use. The only vehicle manufactured recently that still allows 10W40 oil is manufactured by Kia motor company or diesel trucks which may use 5W40, 10W30 or 15W40 oil. The most recent vehicles other than Kia use 5W30 as the heaviest weight oil allowed. The other weights used in current model vehicles are 5W20 0W30 and 0W20.
Dodge caravan 1996 engin oil?
Yes, the 96 Dodge Caravan should not use oil weight higher than 10W30. I have a 2000 Caravan with the 3.0L engine, last year used in the Caravan, and I mainly run 5W30 in it, and run it year round. It's the 30 weight portion that is the summer oil. The 5W or 10W is the winter weight portion. So the 5W30 in the summer is the same weight as 10W30. But in winter the 5W is lighter and will flow faster around the engine than a 10W oil. I also run full synthetic in it which allows the oil to flow faster than conventional oil. It does use some oil too, so I run Mobil 1 5W30 High Mileage oil to help minimize oil burning and leaking. Hope this helps.
THANK YOU ALL, VERY HELPFUL!!$ BLESS EACH OF YOU!!!
