Help 2003 ford escort zx2

I put in a new fuel pump starter and fuel filter it will
go and then start to act like ots bogging down then
it wont accelerate at all. I'll put it in park turn it off
turn key to on off 3 times real fast then start it and
it is really slow and when it does that or just revs
up it makes a popping noise like something is
clogged

It has check wngine light on the mechanic who worked on it said its showing the transmission code and I just started it and it popped loid like it backfired so I shut it off went to put it in neutral and it popped hard into gear

If your mechanically inclined, disconnect your cat. Sounds like what my Dodge ram did and ended up being a clogged cat. Let me know what ya find if you do it.

I took my center counsel apart and the rod for my shifter I believe is broke I put it down into (L) and can move it up n down and side to side with my fingers

Have you looked at the transmission at the shifter lever to see if it moves? Have someone move the shifter and that'll give you a definite answer.
