911 3.2 Carrera ignition drop out

Asked by JL_CT Dec 21, 2016 at 11:01 PM about the 1985 Porsche 911 Targa Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Experiencing intermittent ignition drop outs at 3500+ RPM.  Driving us crazy.
Checked DME, fuel pressure, coil and engine ground.  Most times car "bucks"
violently, sometimes stalls completely only to restart after 1 min.  Seems to get
better when engine hot, but intermittent.   Anybody else see this before ?

Unplug the Mass Air Flow sensor and see how the car drives. I may need replacing.

Check the distributor cap contacts and the condition of the rotor. Also see if the distributor cap itself is vented. There is a kit available to vent the cap to prevent flashover. Good luck.
