What does it mean when the check engine light, trac control, and 4LO come on
Asked by Orval5 Apr 22, 2018 at 09:04 AM about the 2013 Toyota Tundra Platinum CrewMax 5.7L 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Yesterday the check engine light and trac control light came on. Also the 4LO
light came on and is blinking.
I turned off the car and restarted it but it was still there. After leaving the truck
turned of for about 15-20 min, I started it back up, they were gone but
returned again about 2 hours later.
Any thoughts on what this may be?

First, check for the code(s) stored in the computer's memory, this will tell you the possible cause for this problem. No sense in replacing parts that may have nothing to do with the situation.
Thanks, Jorge. Is there a way of extracting the codes without taking it to a dealer?
Auto part stores can do that for free, but if you need to read transmission codes, then you will probably have to take the vehicle to a transmission shop. But try the free service first. And do not purchase any parts they want to sell you, unless you can do the job yourself or have someone that can double check the problem before start spending money.
Thank you Jorge. I will start there.
Most likely, it’s the secondary air injection pump.. or the secondary air control valve. My 2008 did the same... Mine went into limp mode because of it though.
My 2012 just started doing this exact same thing today. Engine Light, trac. control light came on. 4LO light is blinking. It also seems to be in limp mode as Keith said. Did you ever find what was the problem and get it resolved, Orval5?
I’m having the same issue on my 2008 Tundra (4LO flashing and several other indicators staying on-CEL, ABS, track control). I’ve been to the dealer and 2 mechanics and they are saying the same thing: secondary air injection pump(s) and/or the control valves. If you live in a state that doesn’t require emissions testing, search for “SAIC bypass kit). There’s also a chance you can get it repaired from a Recall at the dealer.
Same here on my 2010 tundra. One dealer on phone mentioned the air valve and said it was possibly under warranty but I took it to a closer dealer due to rollback bill and he said everything but the air valve, I’m still not so sure. Anyone figure this out? I do know at first oh can reset the codes by disconnecting he battery. It worked on mine for two weeks then cam back and now won’t reset or run over 5mph
My truck is doing this exact thing as of this morning. Not sure if I should drive it. It engages into 4HI but 4LO still flashes with Check Engine Light on and TRAC OFF light on. Help?!
2007-2013 Tundras have a Secondary Air Injection System (SAIC) that is probably causing the CEL, 4LO, ABS, and traction control to all light up at the same time. Search the internet for SAIC bypass kit or go to Hewitt Tech. I installed two different kits on my Tundra and the lights are gone after following the step by step instructions. Some of the install is a pain in the ... but it has worked for over 2 months now. Cost for both kits was $500. Get computer codes checked at parts store and call Hewitt Tech. Otherwise, take it to a mechanic and pay $2,000- $3,000.
...meant to say SAIS Bypass kit.
I replace a fuel pump and fuel pump relay on a 2006 toyota tundra and still not starting. I towed it to Autozone to get it test and its not giving out and codes. The connection on the ECM are good. Why?
What does 150 code mean

I'm going through the same thing. I had two codes on my 2012, a startability code, which it's never not started since I bought it a year ago. I also got the secondary air injection code. I bought the bypass kit. It went into limp mode today at lunch. I'm going to drive it until we get the kit and put on. I'm hoping this works. If anyone has any tips please let me know.
I have an 07 tundra and I am going through same thing, the tracking control light is on, 4lo is flashing and another, i have no clue what to do, so many ideas but I don't much money to guess on a part just trying to see if anybody had a guarantee fix happen to them. My truck now won't even start it keeps cranking but won't turn over..?

My boyfriend just put the bypass kit on my tundra this morning. I'm going to drive it as normal (but cautious) for a while before I make up my mind. So far, I'm happy.

Same thing hapoen to my 2013 Toyota 4RUNNER (Trac Off, 4 lo blinking and engine light on) but truck was going okay, after a while my truck wouldn't move move in drive. Once it sit for about 15-20 minutes not problem. Took to dealer engine code P0705 for transmission range sensor circuit meaning I needed to replace the park neutral safety switch......out of $615.00 at the dealership it cood in Chicago I can't afford to be stranded, I hope this was the correct fix

What fixes the actual problem without the bypass kit?
Guru9DLKRB answered 3 years ago
Spending 2 to 3K to replace the whole system. I got the bypass kit and sensor cords. The bypass kit should work on its own, but about a month later I got the same lights and a new code saying it was a sensor. So we got the cords and put one cord on each side.

I have the same 3 lights with my 13 Tundra. Had nephew scan with his scanner and came back with P106b as a code. We were in Panama City Fl when it first did it and the dealer scanned it with the same code. The truck runs fine and all, did find a cracked plastic hose that runs from EVAC cannister to air pump and replaced; lights still come on, after my nephew erased code and shut lights off. From what I read this code indicates that the EVAC canister and air pump both have sensors and apparently they read each others pressure once truck shut off, if pressure is unequal it will trigger this light, so now what?
I had the exact same condition. I pulled the negative battery lead off my battery for a minute. Put it back on and it’s all clear. I haven’t driven it yet, but we will see soon enough. I’m curious. I am supposed to have a lifetime power train warranty. I bought my truck new in 2013 and it has 70k miles. Can anyone tell me is this considered a power train issue?
Hi! I am having the same issue with my 2012 Tundra. 4Lo, Trac and Alt. I went to an auto shop, a transmission shop and the dealership. After months the answer was my SA pump. I installed a Hewitt Gen 1 Bypass Kit - worked for a few weeks then had the same issues pop up. I have been resetting my computer every few days now. I am now having the same issue and not sure what to do.

Nobody answered on how to properly fix the problem. One shouldn't have to buy a bypass kit. I guess there ain't a certified Toyota mechanic on here to answer. Mine is 2010, check engine, trac control, and flashing 4LO. Just happened this morning. I'm going to park it until I get the correct, back to factory fix.

if you're out of warranty it's an expensive fix - more than a grand - bypass is easy and only a couple hundred bucks - I've been running one for years and it fixed the limp mode problem - the dash still lights up like a Christmas tree a few times a year - have replace all o2 sensors, cleaned MAF, replaced coolant temp sensor. I carry a scanner with and codes are all over the place - truck runs like a dream but the lights are maddening.

make sure you have coolant in radiator. That's what was wrong with mine
