87 560 sell won't start with weird electrical problems...

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi I'm having many problems on my 87
560sel. The car was running beautifully and
always had till its just died once and
wouldn't start. This is when things started
to get weird... I had my hazard lights on
then I turned my dome light on and it just
started to flash with the hazard lights...the
windshield wipers were going off and there
was no way to stop them and other
electrical systems where too like the
gauges where flicking up and down when I
was not even moving . The car still would
not start till about an hour later and I drove
it for about 30 seconds and the problem
happened again... When it doesn't start it
won't even crank it just does nothing, but
when it did start it can right to life! I checked
all fuses everything was good and I'm stuck.
Before hand i had absolutley no problems at
all! I did charge the ac the day before, could
that had caused something? please help!

Remove and clean battery terminals sounds like you have a bad connection to battery and also check connections at starter making sure they are tight and no charging A.C would not cause this problem.

So I had my father hook up jumpers to my car and it ran fine, took the jumpers off and about 3 minutes later all the electric stuff goes crazy and it dies, took the battery to advance and its good so I'm guessing its the alternator. I didn't know a low battery could cause all the weird electrical problems. Is there anything else I should be worried about like shorts the would make this happen? And thank you so much for the response:)

Do not think its the alternator just a bad battery i would have it tested before replacing alternator.

You may have a bad voltage regulator, which can be changed out of the alternator with the alt still in the car. This affects not only battery charging but also operating voltage for all your sensitive engine electronics...if it's too low, the engine can behave badly (or not all).
