Would a bad catalytic converter burn up plugs and wires?

Excessive back pressure can make the engine run hot. Then again misfires from bad plugs could ruin the cat.

Also I notice a burning smell coming from under the car when I’m at a stop while driving. Could this be the catalytic converter as well?
