why would my brand new altornator just blow up wen i just put it in my volts wagon golf

the old altoenator fried and I bought a new one and it blew as soon as I hooked it up

I would follow the wire harness back towards the battery. You may have a couple of wires fused together or pinched.

Yep what he said would cause that. A negative even exposed rubing on the frame can do that as well.
