What type of transmission do I have

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My transmission needs to be replaced and I was told that my truck has  5 speed transmission overdrive. But I have a automatic transmission. Could I have a 5 speed transmission?

Your truck is most likely equipped with a 5 speed automatic transmission.

There was no 5 speed auto... you have either a 3 speed auto or a 4 speed auto

I have one. It's just a 5 speed. They call 5th gear overdrive. Why? Nobody knows. Maybe its higher than a 5th gear would have been.

Over drive off is just four speed, overdrive on let's you use the higher (5th) gear for comfort driving on highway.
