2014 Mazda CX-5 Touring won’t turn off

Asked by Kwages Mar 15, 2018 at 05:03 PM about the 2014 Mazda CX-5 Touring

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2014 CX5 has been doing the same thing (not
shutting off) over the past year or so.  Car won’t go
in park.....Sounds like a major safety issue.  Did I
say, “Sounds like..?”  IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY
ISSUE!!! Mazda, is this not a problem that should be
corrected with a recall?  Too many people are
having this issue. So something before some child
or other person gets run over!

Sounds like a bad shifter switch..... When pressing the START/STOP button, the ignition may not turn off on some vehicles equipped with a gate-type AT shifter. Although the shift lever is in “P” position and the engine shuts off normally, the ignition may stay on (in accessory mode). This concern may be caused by a worn switch unit. To eliminate this concern, the switch unit material has been changed to improve wear resistance. Modified switch units have been established as new service parts.
