Unlocking Jeep Grand Cherokee with metal key causes alarm to go off

Asked by Jacob Mar 04, 2019 at 10:57 PM about the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: General

When I unlock my 2014 Grand Cherokee with my metal key, the alarm goes off.
I cannot use the key fob, because I work outside and the key fob becomes too
cold to work after a few hours.

I just changed the key's battery it last week and it did not fix the issue

I am ok disabling the alarm permanently, I rather do that then continue to have
the alarm go off when I unlock the vehicle

I had the same thing happen to me recently. I locked my keys in the car, and had my nephew drive over a spare set. My older fob....not working...so used my metal key. Also set off the alarm when door opened. I just ordered a new key fob on ebay…...and you will need to reprogram it (easy) if you just look it up on YouTube Should cost you no more that $50, compared to dealer at $250-800 My suggestion...hope this helps
