how much to replace modular for lock to key fob

Asked by MQJ Jan 31, 2020 at 12:51 PM about the 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My key fob does not work and when I enter car the alarm goes off.  I was told I
need a modular or nodular replacement on the car itself because it cannot
read the key.  I have been told I must go to the dealer and they say it is $602.
to replace.  The car is not under warranty

Maybe not. Modern Subies require that fobs be coded to the dash receiver at the dealer. Fee is usually 1/2 hour labor, as it's a few minutes computer labor only. If you're PURCHASING a new key or fob then it's closer to $200 all in. Never heard of a bad dash receiver, but JDM Imps/CTs/Fors are developing myriad weird problems not seen with Indiana-produced Legs/OBs. Good luck. Ern TSG/B
