No power no start on 82 f150

Asked by Joelow1212 Nov 23, 2018 at 07:28 PM about the 1982 Ford F-150 STD Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Traveling in an old truck, runs and started
great. Until this morning. Turned the truck
on, started right up, then pulled my
headlights on an the truck died. No sputter
out, just plain dead. Tried to start it again
and got nothing, no power, no start. Tested
distributor and got no spark, so I replaced
ECM, starter solenoid, and ignition coil. Still
no power, no start. I can get the truck turned
over and started by jumping the solenoid,
but as soon as I pull the jump (wrench) off
the solenoid the engine shuts off.
Wondering if there is something Im missing.
Been working on it the passed 5 hours with
no luck. It's a 1982 Ford f150 5.0L. I guess
I'll be living in the dirt lot adjacent to
Walmart in Fort Stockton Texas until I get it
fixed.
Thanks,
Joe
