Ford 302 Cam change.

Question type: Car Customization

What cam would you suggest to get the old school sound from a 1980-1986
Ford 302? I call it "no guts - no glory" that was done to make them lope but
nothing major was changed in the engine.

A lumpy cam will mean no low end torque. Not a good choice for a small engine in a heavy pickup. If you do this you may need a stump pulling rear axle ratio and a high stall torque converter.

Tks for the reply. The truck will never do any work and will go to the coffee shop occasionally. If you were around in the late 70's like me it was common in this area to change cam, add hooker headers and circle the hamburger joint. It was done with a 350 chevy engine. Not many fords around, only ford I ever heard was in a '72 bronco, years later. A lot of folks changed engines because no one knew how to make a ford sound that way. I don't want to change the engine to a chevy. Looking for suggestions for a 80-86 Ford 302 to include a piston and cam change just for the sound.
