Runs for a little then dies

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My Ranger starts up runs fine for a little then dies if I start it
again it just runs a little rougher until it stalls out again and so on. It ran
fine until I replaced the fuel pump and tank because it was leaking since
then it wouldn't start at all so I cleaned the relays which were a little
corroded and brought me now to my current problem. I'm just at a loss as
to what the problem could be.

Yes I replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the fuel reservoir
And I forgot to mention that I looked for the inertia switch before and all that was left was bare metal and 2 matching hole where it should have been
But I'll look into the distributor because I've had problems with losing spark ever since I got the truck I replaced the ignition module and distributor coil, And the people I got it from worked on the top of the motor and created a huge vacuum leak in the intake manifold that I had to fix (they didn't scrape off the old gasket and put a new one on top bending the manifold) and they said the distributor was rebuilt too so I can imagine what happened to it. So is there a way to test for a fractured ignition pickup coil such as after it stalling out check for spark or something
I was just saying I cleaned the reservoir because there is a filter in it and tends to be overlooked, and I have an ohm meter so that will work
Wouldn't a spark tester work as well
Ok I check for any problems with the Pickup coil and found nothing as-well-as any problems with losing spark in general and had none. I also bought a fuel pressure tester and the highest pressure I was able to get was 20 psi and from what I found it should be around 30-35. Is that correct? And I heard that the in-tank pump is mainly for getting the truck to start and the in-line pump is for the higher pressure is that also true?
So I disconnected the line right behind the pressure pump and turned the key the pressure stayed a steady 20 psi and didn't drop when I actually turned it on and started the truck actually ran better disconnected from the rest of the line until it ran out of gas meanwhile the line disconnected that would go into the high pressure pump only produced a very slow drip so knowing this I hooked up a volt meter to the the line going to the lift pump and got a very sporadic and lower voltage around 7v and would drop to nothing
So I figure the best thing to do is hook up the power straight to the fuel pump and make sure that pumps right then trace the wire and/or replace it
1990 cord ranger new fuel filter replaced disturbuter first time lasted 2 weeks then it strayed stalling. Replaced it at in and two weeks stalled at in.twice keeps dying after it warms up. New cool ignation module. Cap rotor. Fuel relay ignation relay . it keeps dying after it gets hot almost sound like I hear an arc somewhere near dust. Not sure any thoughts 2.9 V6
Hello GuruR42B did you ever find the solution to your problem? Mine is doing the same thing and has been for a while.
On mine, had for 3.5 yrs. Every 3 mos has this issue of going dead or will crank run few seconds. Found out inertia switch isn't even connected. But I can bang on with hard object. Will crank but won't stay running in any gear. Only park. Shuts off completely.
Thanks for all the tips guy's. Joshua this truck does not have a distributor, but I found the problem. It's a 2000 Ranger 4.0 EFI and they replaced the original coil pack and the thermostat, that was sticking, and so far has cured the problem. Thanks for the help.
