No Heat

Asked by Roly1054 Nov 20, 2016 at 06:58 AM about the 1988 Ford Ranger STD Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Heater worked before....just recently replaced water pump
upper radiator hose and the two heater hoses from the
firewall to the thermostat housing and water pump. Now I
am getting no heat in the cab. The upper radiator hose
isn't hot nor the heater hoses. And I was driving long
enough for the hoses to get hot. Could this be the water
pump?

It does sound as if the pump is not moving water thru the system

there is an air bubble behind your thermostat which is keeping it from opening- you might as well put a new thermostat in since you did all that other work- then with all your new work sealed up, take the radiator cap off, open the heating system, and start squeezing the hoses to get all the air bubbles out of the system- it helps to park on a slight incline with the nose pointed up- it takes a while, but you have to get all the air out of your cooling system! does this sound ridiculous? it is

Did you replace the thermostat all so?

You may have the upper and lower heater hoses switched. If you replaced the thermostat (which you probably should when you do all that anyway) you may have installed it backwards, preventing water flow.

Thanks to everyone in helping me figure out this problem... What I did was replaced the heater core and the truck is idling right now and it is nice and warm in there. Now us it okay to drive or do I need to let cool down first before driving it.
