Asked by Michael Apr 19, 2016 at 02:34 AM about the 1983 Pontiac Grand Prix Brougham

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1983 grand Prix and it has a 350 Chevy
small block in it . it has high performance altinator
fuel pump and starter. And nitrous... Ok so I used
to be able to hit the gas and car was fast as hell.
But now wen I hit the gas it bogs and like jerks. I
have replaced fuel pump prob 6 months ago. Also
just replaced ignition module. And the starter and
brand new battery. Wat can cause this problem

Did you also replace the fuel filter ? Clean carb with spray carburetor cleaner use the whole can.

If you have the HEI in there, it may be the vacuum advance in the distributor not working. Also to check on would be the accelerator pump in the carb. Just look down the throat of the carb to see if it squirts gas as soon as you move the butterflies. (throttle) One other thing could be a vacuum leak at the intake manifold. When the engine is cool, start it up and spay carb. cleaner along the intake gasket. If there is a leak the rpm's will pick up. Check under the carb also. Oh ya, another thing would be to check the EGR valve to make sure it is closing all the way, and working properly.
