Oil every where on top of motor
Hi there, I have a 94 geo prizm. And it apparently has a bad
problem. The other day I was sitting a light and all of a
sudden there was right smoke coming from the hood. O
pull over and there was oil every where! I recently had the
cam seal done and had it towed back to the place I had the
work done. Before that I had replaced the valve cover
gasket. They told me I put a spark cover gasket on wronged
Wich o know was not done. I double and triple checked that
it was done right. So I took it back to my house and redid
the gasket, cleaned the throttle body and intake manifold
and cleaned out the air filter. (Wich is an aftermarket cheap
k&n knock off) and noticed that there was an abundance of
oil throughout the intake and intake manifold. After
everything was put back together. It didn't want to start at
first but then eventually started but had a really rough idle
to where I would die I slightly pushed in the gas to rev it up
just a little and there was white smoke coming from the
tailpipe and I saw white smoke coming from the engine bay
which I thought was residual oil burning off. After running it
for about 10 minutes I decided to try and take it on the road
and drive it around a little bit to burn off excess oil that I
thought the mechanic had let drain into the combustion
chamber from him telling me that there was oil in the spark
plug tube. So I drove it to the gas station down the street to
put gas in it I decided to look at the engine and double
check to make sure everything was okay and there was oil
all over the engine again. So I drove it straight back to the
house to try and figure out the problem. Well I had a
neighbor down the street that knows cars really well ( has a
bunch of ricers in the drive) he had told me after looking at
it for a couple minutes and letting it run which is seem to
be able to idle but still running pretty rough that I had blown
piston rings. He told me that if I were to take off the
exhaust manifold that I would find that there was oil
leaking out of there and the reason for oil all over the top of
my engine is that the piston rings kept pressure below
because of the blown rings there was added pressure to
the top of the motor which caused oil to spray out from the
top of the engine. should I get a rebuild kit or should I just
buy another used motor? FYI this motor that I have in there
now is a '93 Corolla DOHC 1.8L with 135,000 miles, that I
had someone put in 5 years ago.
