1992 geo...after shifting into drive,goes about thirty feet,and diengages..like shifting to neutral,cut car off,wait 10 sec. or so,crank back up,shifts into gear for another 30 or so feet,then have to repeat process

Has anyone done any work to the car before this started happening?Has the Metro been working fine up to this point? I'm trying to determine if the car just all of a sudden started doing this or had someone maybe had done some work on it causing this malfunction.Let me know about this and I may be able to solve the problem. Paul 23 years experience on metros only.
