2002 WRX Wagon Struts & Spings

Asked by Gwostej Jun 21, 2020 at 06:55 PM about the 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm about to replace all 4 struts with KYB OE replacements.  Is now the time to
replace the Springs as well (with new springs) ?

If the springs are 18 years old you may want to replace them.

Check corrosion. They may be ok...but since they're pretty cheap FOR may be right in erring on the side of caution here, as you don't want to break one. OTOH new struts will extend the lives of springs anyway.

Since the springs have to be installed on the new struts the labor for new springs is effectively free. In fact the labor should be a little less as they don't have to remove the old springs from the old struts.
