Oil burning

Asked by Shavman4 Jun 16, 2016 at 03:44 PM about the 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a burning oil problem on a 2004 Subaru WRX
wagon. Seems to burn at idle  and when I push the
car. Looses 1qt of oil every 1000 miles. Smells like
it's running rich and burning oil.

Did you just get this car? Has it ever sat for a long period of time? It could be stuck or broken rings... Or valve seals. Could be other things, I don't read up a whole lot on this scenario. What are you looking to do with it? Are you capable of fixing it? Taking it to a shop? Swapping in another engine?

How about using good old 15w-50 synth instead of the skinnier stuff in there? If that doesn't work I'd even go back to 20w-50 dino before giving up the motor.
