COMPLETE rear ends from 98 to 2008 Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis can be swapped as a whole unit. However the number of splines in the axle can be different in Police Interceptor, as may universal joints during the years. Again, swapping over a complete unit should not be a problem, but remember the model and year you got it from in case you need parts. Keep the u joint and save all its parts during removal from the donor car, just in case.

1998-2002. 2003 up is wider, zplines makes no difference as all 1998-2002 weren't 31 spline anyway

Shock mount locations also changed around 2003. I have a 2009 P71 rear end that will not go into my 1998 Crown Vic because of this.

1998 is narrower than 2003 up. all complete assys from 03 up interchange. 08 up 31 spline but makes no difference about spline count when swapping complete assy. 1998-2002 interchange. 2003-2011 interchange. end of story

I have a 2005 CV police interceptor, the rear end is leaking from the front pinion seal, I have a 2000 and a 2003 interceptors, which year interchanges with my 2005? I read something from Tim who said 1998-2002 and 2003-2011 are the true interchangeable parts years, no if, and, or but about it.Can I get a second from anyone?

2003 and up will swap out. You can also use the earlier axle, but you will have to use the earlier soft brake lines and adapt the ebrake cable. The shock mounting points are already on your current car, they just left them when moving the shocks to the outside of the frame. The rest of the mounting points are the same.
