Will a regular crown victoria engine fit into a police interceptor car?

My Brother-in-law has a 2001 crown vic PI. He overheated his engine and is in need of a
new one. Can he buy a regular engine and put it in or does he have to get a police engine?

It has a few different Motors but none of them power the wheels in the vehicle. An internal combustion engine Powers the wheels to the vehicle not a motor. Please stop putting information online whenever you don't know what you're talkin about, it just confuses people that are trying to learn, thank you.
