Will a 07 08 crown Vic police interceptor transmission work in a 05 interceptor

No it won't work. Ford totally changed transmission in 2006 up. The only way it MAY work is to change PCM IF it will fit.

Yes, 05-08 are direct swap. The designation was changed in 06, from 4R70E to 4R75E, reflecting an increase in the rated Torque capacity of the tranny. The actual upgrade took place in 04 (planetary gears), so despite being different part numbers, they are essentially identical. The mechanical diode was upgraded in 07. The pan and OSS sensor received a negligible update in 06. 09-11 could also be used if the internal electrical components are swapped. Alternatively, you could splice an 09+ style pigtail onto the car and it'll work perfectly (the 09 change was to the wiring harness, which resulted in connectors changing shape. Everything functions exactly the same).
