1990 Geo Tracker

It idles rough but when put into gear it shakes really bad
..any ideal on why..I've looked for a switch that others have
talked about but thinking this modle doesn't have one also
could the rough idle come from a bad transmission

shaking from the trans .. could be a vacuum leak...dead cylinder(plug,wire) and again a vacuum leak.
