Expect higher cost in service and more frequent visits to the shop. Read the online forums....Competition among PHEVs is yet scarce, however. The closest rival could be the 13-mile e-range, limited-market, mid-sized Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid. There’s also the (arguably) 11-mile mid-sized Toyota Prius plug-in, the 38-plus-mile compact Chevrolet Volt, or Ford’s own identically rated C-Max Energi. As it is, the Fusion’s e-range makes it viable for half of all Americans who commute less than 20 miles daily. The whole idea with a plug-in hybrid is to use cheaper and cleaner electricity to propel the car instead of the gas engine. As a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, the Fusion Energi uses a third-generation hybrid system that shares design features and patents – but not components – with Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive. The Energi powertrain claims over 200 patents out of Ford’s almost 500 hybrid system patents. I suggest ALL NEW SYSTEMS EQUAL MORE TROUBLE ...READY FOR WINDOWS 12 No patches, glitches or bugs!
I own a 2014 fusion Energi with 30,000 miles on it. The car gets charged before driving to work and gets charged at work. The commute distance is 23 1/2 miles each way.On average in cold temperatures the electric battery gives approximately 16 to 17 miles range. In the summertime the range was as high as 27 miles. But after owning the car year it's approximately 24 miles during warm weather. Thus far the car has had zero repairs and standard maintenance.it seems to be following the same maintenance trend as our 2012 Fusion hybrid of zero repairs for the first hundred thousand miles. Can't say how.that compares to the prius
http://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/2016/06/22/kia-ranks-1st-detroit-three-rise-jd-power-study/86210810/ Interestingly, I'm not in the habit of pointing out JD Power results as that was the mantra of mostly import buyers. But please take a look at the link above as 'another viewpoint' than the oft claimed 'big three quality just isnt as good'. At one point that was true. It currently is not the case. "The Detroit Three collectively outperformed import brands for just the second time in 30 years as all three automakers improved their scores in this year's closely watched J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, while Kia earned the top score among the 33 brands evaluated. This year, data from surveys completed by new car buyers revealed that the Detroit Three achieved a combined average score of 103 problems per 100 vehicles over the first 90 days of new vehicle ownership, according to J.D. Power. That's a 10% improvement from 2015 and twice the improvement rate of the import brands that scored a collective 106 problems per 100." Game on.
