2014 Ford Focus Se Fan want turn on

My car has been running hot while sitting still, I purchase a new fan and the fan
still want come on, the straight wired it and that was the only way the fan would
come on. But I didn't feel safe with that I took it to the shop and they told me to
buy another fan, but didn't tell me anything else

there could be a relay , you can swap identical ones to test ., a coolant temp sensor is pretty cheap if you want to replace that .Stay away from that shop . running the engine hot is not good , shut it down if it gets hot .
