Why does air conditioning engage on a cool, damp, rainy day.

On a cool rainy, damp day my air conditioning engages, on its own.  Only the vent fan is on.  The air that comes out if colder than if the air conditioning was turned on.  Dealer has no idea.  Purchased vehicle in March and this has happened 4 times now.

The A/C will run any time the heater is set to defog the windshield. All vehicles do this.

Mine does this same thing. Its not set on auto and it makes the car stink really bad from the mildew smell from the A/C turning on and off.
