$564 to Replace the Third Tail light in the middle!

Asked by GuruRYDVB Feb 03, 2020 at 05:32 PM about the 2014 Chrysler 300 S RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was quoted $564 to replace the 3rd back light in the middle. I notice that the
rear trunk release button and the backup camera lens is in this light. Is that
why it is so expensive. Second, if I don't fix and the rear lights work fine, is it
illegal. Will I get pulled over?

You can pick up a used assembly for $140 to $200 on ebay and install yourself if you want. I assume you were quoted a dealer price for the part and install? If you don't fix it, you might not get pulled over, I can't guarantee anything, but you will have to have it repaired by the time you have your state inspection.

I live in Arizona where the Liddy light is required. However, they will give you a warning the first time. As I'm 71 and drive 4,000 miles/year (rarely at night), I'll take my chances. I just had my car inspected and I was in and out in 5 minutes. Maybe the bureaucrats will miss it, lol. With 40% of Americans unable to come up with $400 if given a month, I'm thankful that in the end I can bite the bullet. But still, the whole thing is a screw job. Although I love my Chrysler 300, I feel I'm being screwed.
