....well you might check the voltage at the chassis...if the battery is old...this will not do, because the ignition and fuel relays do not work so good with anything other than a reliable 12.5 volts DC~....so get a NEW battery and refresh the ground connection to the frame with a coarse wirebrush...the lug and the territory that it bolts to so that a 300 cold cranking amps potential can be realized by the startermotor~

Good morning amofaga, I believe Tom and Judge_Roy are correct. Without more information form you on the type of motor and symptoms it's hard to tell what your problem might be? Another component in the mix maybe the cam sensor. They have been known to cause this problem also? Good Luck, Rats
I really appreciate the advice you guys. i have a 2002 ford excursion, 5.4L V8, XLT . the mechanic has my vehicle right now. im wondering if should recommend to him all the advice im getting?
Amofaga, It never hurts for you to share your knowledge with your mechanic, the more informed he thinks you are, the more likely he is to be diligent in coming up with a accurate diagnosis and repair. Again, Good Luck, Rats

Having the same problem with a 2000 Excursion 5.4l gas. It will start one day, then not when I leave work...but will start up immediately the next morning. It will run for a couple of days with no problem then not start the next time. I've listened for the fuel pump to turn on when it has problems but have not heard anything. One other weirdness to it is that occasionally I have the oil pressure gauge stay at zero after starting or when driving but it comes right back to normal 5-10 seconds later. There are knocks, pings or engine noises to indicate the engine is having trouble with oil, though.
HayaBuddha, My moms 2000 V10 Exc is having the same problem. I'm trying to due some research before I go and try to fig out what the problem is. Have you found out what the problem was with yours. My moms car was only having problems when it rained. Then after it dried it would start. Now it has totally went I guess because it hasn't started in 4-5 days. The last time I went to go look at it the thing started right up so I couldn't diagnose anything.I read on one forum that it could be the TPS sensor. But i am also thinking maybe the fuel pump.
I have an excursion it's a 2001 the theft light is blinking fast on the dash and it's cranks like a beast but it doesn't even try to start just cranks and cranks ?? what could it be I really need someone's help
Lucas, I've been dealing with the same thing. According to what a Ford service manager told me the theft light activity indicated a fault somewhere in the SecuriLock/PAT system. The service manual has particular steps to diagnose which part of the system is malfunctioning. I needed a new module.
Check your accessory delay relay prior to any other troubleshooting. Its relay #5 (lower left hand corner) of the interior fuse panel. This was the fix for my 2000 Excursion "cranks, but won't start" issue. The fuel pump wasn't being supplied enough voltage due to the relay not operating. I used a Bosch relay with the same pin out I had in the garage and the truck fired right up..after two days of troubleshooting everything else.
Same issue2000 f250 5.4 switched #5 relay and truck started. Fixed my problem!
it will turn over good but will not start i put either in and it starts i turn on the switch and no noise from the fueltank
2000 f0rd excursion starts sometimes, cranks all times what can I do/ /
2002 Ford E350 SuperDuty 5.8L 8 Cyl. Gas - as I started to troubleshoot my own issue with cranking but no start condition, I started to disassemble the air intake to see if there were loose wires, etc. After removing the air cleaner, and disconnecting the MAF Sensor and setting the intake parts [3 of them] aside, I thought I would turn it over to see if I could here the relays for the fuel pump, etc. You might imagine how surprised I was when it started quicker than I EVER remember. Thinking I had fixed it somehow, I put it all back together, and it would not start. WHAT?! So then it dawned on me, that there was an issue with the MAF Sensor - when I disconnected it from the circuit again, it fired right up. So now I will have to check the volatages running through the wires and make sure we have a good ground....Hope some of you find/found this helpful...
i lost three fuses and caused this.... could be anything i guess.
I hope you all sorted this issue out by now, but here’s what I learned: 2000 Excursion V10 cranks won’t start intermittently. I checked the fuel pump, relays, fuses, got a new battery, changed fuel filter, and even the safety start fuse behind the radio. Problem was still there... I read somewhere that it may be a ground issue so I checked the voltage at the battery 13.1v, to the body 13.1v, to the frame 13.1v, to the engine 9v. So, I changed the terminal end on the negative cable and added a ground strap from the battery to the engine, problem solved. It has started problem free since and cost me about $20 Good luck I hope this helps

I appreciate all the information I received.I have a 2000 Ford excursion 6.8 v-10 4 wheel. 180.000 miles. Has full tow package. Very happy with he vehicle. It Has been hitting us hard on replacing arts. I've done front brakesnew calipers and rotors. Stops on a dime for as heavy it is. I've replaced both front u joints and wheel bearings. Also done spark plugs and new air filter. You wouldn't believe the savings in gas consumption. Anyways back to my problem. I recently had the fuel filter and pump go out. I replaced both yet she refuses to start. Turns over just fine. Doesn't even try to run. Nothing. I have a action. Co 9670 diagnostics tool .it says the only code I have is a code that says the codes have been wiped. I.took it to auto zone before i had problems about 4 months ago and had them check the check. Engine lite he diagnosed the problem as oxygen sensor, I thanked him and said I would be in the following Fri. When I arrived to purchase it the person I talked to didn't know what I was talking about. That it could be a number of sensors. When he plugged hos machine n all he could find was the code saying that it had been wiped. I still had no problem other than normal stuff, then the fuel pump went out due to not keeping enough gas in truck very important no less than 1/4 tank I'm told. Anyways I could use some help.please,i am passable mechanic. This modern day stuff has been a thorn in my side. I can get it diagnosed for 80$ can't really afford it already put450$ in it this week alone. Its been running me about300 to 400 a month on replacing parts and up keep. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't trade my BEAST for nothing.thanks for easing this whole thing and for the advise, By the way someone told me I need to haul it to the shop and have them reprogram he computer.??
Thanks to 83mbski and all posters. The accessory delay relay caused 7+ P-codes with no cluster and no start. Switched out the relay and life is good again after 48 hours of troubleshooting. Planning to spend $300-500 on IDM and GP Module but all I really needed was a 15 dollar relay.
