casting plug that allows water to enter the oil

Asked by kfudd Jul 25, 2017 at 08:17 AM about the 2014 MINI Cooper Clubman S FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Looking to find the location of the casting plug. Car overheated and now we are
finding water in the oil. Changed the external water pump due to a hose being
broke off. Then changed spark plugs due to it running rough. Oil and filter were
changed due to the water and then more was found again. Now it wont start or
run at all.

Here is a picture of mine. I am still trying to get access via the outer plug to replace the inner one. This is a real pain for something so small. I would not expect this to be your problem unless your coolant just pours into the crank case. This plug being out leaves a nearly 1 inch hole for the coolant to drain directly into the timing chain well and down into the oil pan.
