if the fan is bolted to the pump then take the fan off and youll have plenty of room.

HAVE GOOD RUBBER STRAP WRENCH TO HOLD THE WATER PUMP PULLY.(I purchased mine at Lowes for $14). Facing the front of the engine place the strap wrench around the pully and tighten, place a large end wrench or crescent wrench on big nut of the water pump shaft and turn the nut counter clockwise.
Go to your nearest auto parts store and rent a fan removal tool. They charge your card but reverse the charges when you bring the tool back. Turn the nut counter clockwise facing the truck.
im also trying to change my water pump on an 04 envoy but i cant get the pump out. am i supposed to take the shroud off first? it doesnt seem possible please help
trying the rentatool at advance and their stamped tool was slipping on big nut because it was not thick enough or tempered hard enough to hold. But it was a good suggestion it just was sorry tools.
I have gmc envoy 2002...after park. My car nevera again the shift moved..for wath reason is lock
I thing is the cable shift because i remove the cable off to the transmisión and moved with my hand and the transmisión take the shift...stop light is ok.
GearWrench 3900 Universal Pulley Holder, It takes this set of tools to remove the clutch fan on many GM cars and SUV's
My sister ran water, and let her water pump rust apart. If you really work on your own vehicles, people, you have to be prepared to do a complete job. Like flushing system, new hoses, thermostat, new radiator, cooling fan. Did just that on my 1999 Saturn.
I just did this project ... The tool you rent is evil and hard to use... I bought a strip of the thick metal strap with holes in it from the hardware store. I bolted one end of the strap to the pulley bolt the other end to the ac brace sticking up on the left side and you have all the counter strength you need to remove the fan clutch bolt. I used the same process in reverse. Best $7.00 I ever spent.
