I have a issue with my transmission and the dealership told
me if the machine they use can't verify it then Nissan won't
cover it, and it's still under warranty. Does that sound right?

Anything to get out of satisfying the customer...If you have a legitimate question on the operation of your trany, I would think they should check it out.
