Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi. I have a 2014.5 Camry with 79,000 mi. Was
driving fine and then parked it and noticed the key
fob wouldn't lock the door.  I tried to start the car
but there was no electric at all.  Door locks
wouldn't work and there were zero lights on the
dashboard. When the tow truck came it couldn't be
shifted into neutral, so the driver did the manual
override where you use a screwdriver to depress
the release which then allows you to shift.  When
he did this the car power came on.  I was able to
start it and drove it for a day. The next day the
same problem.  I was able to do the same thing to
get it to start.  Drove to the store and parked it
when I got home and lo and behold it's doing it
again.  But this time I am unable to get it to turn
the power on.  Not sure what issue is.  I checked
fuses and battery is new .  Could it be a computer
problem or maybe shift sensor?  There are no
codes.

You could also try disconnecting the battery over night. Worth a try but your car may have to learn your drive habits over, so it may drive less like you remember for 100 miles or so.

Thanks for the response. I tried disconnecting the battery but it didn't work. There are no lights at all anywhere, including the security light. Taking it to local shop tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be an easy fix.

Problem solved. It was the connection between the battery and the ignition that was not making contact. It was not obvious on inspection.

Glad you're back up and running. Thanks for posting the fix.
