What is the random on/off button on my truck?

Asked by migration_Tina2383 Oct 09, 2014 at 01:11 PM about the 2002 GMC Envoy 4 Dr SLE 4WD SUV

Question type: General

On my 2002 Envoy there is a random on/off switch near the steering wheel and the mileage display area (information center)  I don't know what that button goes to.  I have switched it on and off and have seen no change in anything in the car so I am confused.  The button isn't in the book that came with the car and I can't find an answer anywhere on Google.  Please if you know let me know.

Is the switch original equipment or does it look like an aftermarket switch that someone installed?

Check the golve box manual. It probably is to turn off the overdrive on the transmission for mountain driving or towing a trailer.

My only thoughts are to pull the switch out of the dash and check the GM Part #. Maybe you can cross reference the number with a description? Other than that, it's tracing out wires in the dash.
