Mine was doing the same thing and it ended up being the starter selenoid needing replaced. Worked fine ever since. Unfortunately to replace the selenoid I had to replace the starter as they are molded together.

2004 GMC Envoy XL . Changed these parts : Starter. Battery. Ignition switch. Fuse Relay. Turns on the lights ,radio, dash, inside lights ect but will not crank. I understand there is a built in security system that will not allow it to turn on if it thinks it's being tampered with. On you tube there is a technique you can do to make the computer relearn so as to allow the vehicle to turn on although it does not work all the time. Will be trying it tomorrow ,I'll post here let you know what happened.

Well finally got some luck , It turns out it was the built in anti theft system , okay so let me go back to my original issue with my 2004 GMC Envoy XL 4200. My wife had gone to the store in the Envoy not a single problem with it ,she comes back out tries to start it nothing it just cranked until the battery just died completely. I buy a new battery it wouldn't turn over so I figure it was the starter , so Me and my son change the starter, then the ignition switch ,then the starter fuse relay ,nothing but lights ,one light in particular is the SECURITY LIGHT That stays on , come to find out some genius somewhere ,got the idea that this dang built in security system should prevent the crank of the Envoy among a list of things to go completely wrong , this computer is sensitive folks!!!. If it thinks it's being tampered with which could ,or might be ,with the simple act of changing the battery ,or changing the alternator you will probably have to get it to reset good news is there is a technique for it ,but beware if this technique even works it might work for a while ,it might bring on new problems ,it might not even work when you try it, then again you might not ever have this problem again. Go to the next comment I'll post it on there don't worry it's easy as heck .

You'll be leaving the ignition on so as an option hook up a battery charger . 1.Turn the key to on and attempt to start engine ( it won't start I know) leave the ignition in the on position do not turn it off ,you see the security light flashing or just staying on ?your gonna wait about 10 minutes for that sucker to turn off. Next turn off the ignition wait about 10 seconds then repeat these instructions your gonna have to do this technique for 3 times for a total of 30 minutes once you followed these steps for 3 times turn off the ignition switch all the way and wait for 10 seconds now try and start it ,it should try and crank ,so what you did was get the internal computer to relearn ,you can Google these instructions yes it worked for me ,I got happy to hear my Envoy finally crank , by the way I'm not a mechanic so don't go thinking that I am ,I'm just like you trying to find answers to this junk your free to make your own decisions . Do your research and good luck folks.

Hello Nicole, sorry your going through a rough spot, the only thing I can think of is your battery may not be pushing the necessary 12 volts needed to turn over the motor. Bad battery Bad alternator Loose connection One of the fuses. It's hard to tell especially with these pain in the bottom cars. You got to eliminate a lot of choices with the electrical system. Hmm start with the battery , check the terminals see if there loose. Get someone to take it oreilly s auto parts they check for free. Starters too by the way. If it happens to be something simple and an easy fix, but it'll start but won't turn over, get someone to clean the throttle, twice I've had to do this to mine. Hey if it gets fixed post here okay, I'd like to know how it turned out. Good luck.

I have an 06 and I've tried to jump the battery and I start it but the engine won't start but lights radio and all turn on and my gas needle has been off could it be my fuel pump going or just need to be cleaned

Thanks guys. I took It to Belle tire and they said my fuel pump needed to be replaced ??? Ok So why won't it even crank over if it's just the fuel pump. They want $882.64 to do this !!!! Doesn't sound right to me.

11 people found this helpful.
440

Right. Reason given was the pcm fuse will keep blowing out triggering my fuel pump not to work. Seems legit I guess.... So I called around. Belle tire wants $530.00 for price of new pump. I found them for $249. - $306.00. So why the huge $200.00-$300.00 Mark up on the same part ? Then 350.00 in labor.... Labor ok but the mark up is crazy. I am taking my envoy elsewhere. I got the copy of their Diag report for this. ($80.00 for diag ) Needless to say I won't do business with Belle in the future.

Thanks.. I will update tomorrow with info after new mechanic checks it out. I normally would have my son fix this but my Envoy almost has 300,000 miles on it and at this point I want certfied warranty mechanic doing it just to be safe.

Nichole did you ever figure out the problem?

3 people found this helpful.

Tina, yes. So it seems the problem was my fuel pump and my fuse. Each time I tried to crank it in turn that would blow my pcm fuse. It is fixed now. So if you are also having this problem where it will NOT crank here is the reason.

I drive a 2005 gmc, never had this problem. all of a sudden it wont crank. the radio comes on, the battery is new, the lights even comes on. So this guy which is a machinic comes to check it, He goes under the hood and toch something that runs to the cranking part and it cranks, He says that we needs a new cranking switch.

Hi everyone just wanted to let yall know I still have the same Envoy I had problems with about 2 years ago. I'm sorry I didnt respond to some of you and its been a long time. I'd like to share some things I've learned about my Envoy. First as some of yall know there is a by-pass to the internal security system to the envoy if your Envoy wont start. If that doesnt work you can try what Ive tried. In my experience once the Envoy doesnt turn more than likely your gear shifter will be stuck. Your middle console underneath to the side there is a button to push it will release the gear shift . Gotta tell ya its a "pain in the rear" to take the middle console off just to get to it. Find every screw to remove then locate it . Check your intake engine valve manifold thats the top of the engine. Its the thing that opens up when you press the gas mine was stuck I cleaned it but eventually bought a new one. Yes its pricey. Envoy started right up. Well soon after my envoy broke down again I had to trouble shoot and look at forums and YouTube ect stressed out and upset at my Envoy till finally I found out the ignition switch went out . Bought a new one started right up. Yeah the ignition switches are a bad design they go out alot. Few months later Envoy broke down again I went through the fuses first I convinced myself it couldnt be the ignition switch again nothing was working turns out all my -Red colored fuses, if I remember correctly the #10 were all out none lit up !. Man that put a scare in me , I thought it was computer module which by the way there are people out there that repair computer modules and most of the time once repaired theyre just plug and play no reprogramming usually is needed it can get costley but reasonable. After some time in stress worrying about my Envoy I went ahead and installed another new ignition switch dang thing started right up checked those fuses they lit and have not had a problem since. So Basically youtube some of this stuff keep in mind about a dirty intake valve, red # 10 fuses , most importantly the stupid designed ignition switches. I hope that by sharing my experiences they may help you. Im not a mechanic shade tree at best , but i get in that engine when I have too. I have a reasonable passion for fixing my vehicles plus the cost of hiring a mechanic scares me into motivation , I'm sure it does you as well. Good luck ya'll hope it all works out.

My envoy won't start it started by hitting the starter ran for a second then cut off again hasn't started since security light stays on tried the 30 min thing still nothing what now

1 people found this helpful.
1,830

Trying to figure out how you hit the starter. The starter is no joke to get too. Check the THROTTLE BODY mine had gunk on the inside preventing the lids from flapping open , if they dont open it your envoy wont breath itll keep dieing on you. Throttle body cleaner, rags ect. If the security light is still on it doesnt matter until you check the throttle body. Lucky for you its very easy to check the throttle body not much to take off. Do that first. Once you get done with that and it still doesnt start then worry about the security light. When your doing the bypass procedure make sure you hook up a battery charger to that battery or youll drain it leave it on even if the battery is new, you want a continuous flow of energy. Check the red # 10 fuses they may indicate if your ignition switch is out, that was my experience anyway. If the by - pass didnt work try a couple more times and be patient and time it . Remember this is free advice Im no mechanic just someone that went through the pain of trial and error.

I feel sorry for you all. I have a 2005 GMC Envoy that would just die while driving and then crank but no start. I tried pulling and resetting all the fuses and relays and the car started fine. I jumped in and mad a made dash for home but only made it 3/4 (about 15 miles). Went back to the fuse block again. Again, pulled and reset all the fuses and relays. Cars started right up. I noticed that all the wire channel around the wires going to fuse block were so brittle that they were like dust. With the car still running, I snapped the inner cover on and the car shut down. Pulled the inner cover off and reset and started again. This time I softly placed the inner cover down and everything was good. Then I put the outer cover on. Snapped the front snap and no problem. Went to push the back of the cover down and this shut the engine down. I did this several times and as soon as I got to push the back (even gently) it would shut down. Finally, I just left the two covers off so I could get home. Keep in mind that mine was a crank no start. I believe either the ignition relay is bad and is being bumped when cover is installed, there might be a short/intermittent contact in the relay portion of the fuse block or a broken wire at or near the fuse block. Electrical problems are the worse.

This Envoy will not start but does not have power to the dash every time the car receives power the alarm sounds then car has no more power. The alarm only last for maybe 1/2 seconds and then everything's dead again

OK everybody I found out something I thought could never cause this type of problem. I have an 07 envoy that had same issue and changed all the same stuff from ignition switch to what ever you can think of with no help. I ran a diagnostic and it gave me a p2101 fault which is the throttle position sensor(depends on model some tps can be changed others like mine you have to replace entire throttle body) From past experience I ignored this because how can a throttle position sensor cause a no crank? long story short after assuring the security system was not tripped which would stop injectors and get no crank i finally said lets find out about the throttle code. come to find out that the throttle plate inside the throttle body was stuck closed!! I literally had to push very hard to free it up. I then cleaned it with contact cleaner (no lube needed) just to insure got all gunk out. I put it all together and to my surprise it cranked over and ran like a champ. Never would I have thought that a throttle body sensor telling the EEC/pwc that because of this not to crank or allow fuel into the fuel injectors. It seems to me that since they put the pass-lock system which if someone tampered with your ignition switch would do the same they would hook up into this. I feel when the eec/pwc did not get the proper signal from the throttle body sensor it told the body control module to not allow to crank or send fuel. The bitch was the tripped code was telling me all along that there was a problem with the throttle position sensor but I could not believe in my wildest imagination this could possibly happen. I was not the only one who felt like this my car was in the shop and they threw in the towel. VERY IMPORTANT: Im one case I know of a shop felt it was the EEC and or body control module and sent out my originals before they received the new ones. If you ever do this your screwed because the pass-lock system is programmed and setup for the proper key and programmed in eec and body control module and will lock you up for good. only was to get it corrected is you have to go to GMC dealer to get both reprogrammed for both. makes me wonder what other sensors feed the eec that can cause this? to sum up fix any codes that come up even if they don't seem to logically be related to a no crank situation. also the car was running great before this happened. turned off normally went to store got back in and no start or crank. how the throttle body got so jammed is beyond me but it happened. best of luck.

forgot to add that if the security system is good you will not be able to do the key relearn. when you turn the key on and the security light goes out its saying Im happy. if happy you try to relearn hold key for what 3 to 10 seconds let go you will got get security light to come on after 10 minutes because its working no need to relearn. school of hard knocks.

The oil pressure sensor if bad will prevent engine cranking, and stalling sometimes too. GL.

I have a 2006 Envoy 4 wheel drive I'm listening to the radio and take the key out and it shuts off the interior lights flash why

Sounds like you have a safety feature to lock fuel injectors. Its more of a Hassel then a safety feature. There's a way you can turn it off. I don't remember how.
