Hyundai Sante Fe won't start

Asked by Semberlyn Jan 17, 2016 at 10:59 AM about the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Came out this morning and my Hyundai Santa Fe
wont start. It is dead, dead, dead! This is the 4th
time that this has happened. After the first time I
thought maybe I was accidentally leaving the cabin
lights on due to the light delay (you know... that
feature where the light stay on in the cabin for two
or three minutes after you exit the car).  Well I
turned that feature off, so when I exited the car last
night the car was completely dark. Every time this
is happened I get someone out here to jump start
my car and then the car runs fine again. This is a
2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. It has about 80,000 miles
on it (yes, I do drive A LOT!), but I purchased this
car brand new. We have been having very cold
mornings, but my previous car which was a Toyota
never had a problem like this. Any suggestions?

if it's cold were you live. get the battery charged, and get a battery warmer pad cold freezes the battery and makes battery die, I have a new battery the battery dies all the time to i put a battery warmer pad around the battery have no more problem, or something maybe staying on well car is off..

I'm having the exact same problem this winter. The dealer replaced the battery and two months later it's doing it again. Last winter was much, much colder and I had no trouble at all. The dealer said that there is only a tiny bit of amperage being drawn when it is turned off and this battery is testing fine. Mine only has 5000 miles on it though.

It could just be that the battery is going dead overnight because of a higher than normal current draw. The keep alive current (radio channels and clock) should be less than 40 milliamps. To check this disconnect the positive battery terminal and place a low current amp meter between it and the positive battery pole. At first the reading will be higher than normal, you may have to wait as long as one minute for the computer to go to sleep and then the reading should fall real low.. on some cars as low a 25 milliamps.

Like this person, I had a Toyota previously for 10 years with never a problem, and now have a 2014 Santa Fe with the same problem described. However, just weeks before the clicking sound in my car not starting, one of my key fobs stopped working, and even a new battery wouldn't help. I believe that was a clue that something was amiss. Kept trying to start the car til the clicking completely stop, figured it was the battery, so charged it overnight, and it started. Bought a Brand New battery, and now everything works perfectly.

My Hyundai has been doing this for months, winter or summer. Sometimes it just doesn’t start. It’s very unreliable and I never know when I will be stuck somewhere, yet the computer says there is nothing wrong according to my mechanic. Well there is. No one seems to know what it is. I need help

I’ve got a new 2018 six month old 6500 miles on the clock. Hyundai Santafe. Twice in a couple of days the car won’t start. All the lights come on inside the car but when I press the start button nothing happens. I left the car for about 30 to 45 minutes and tried it again and it started. It’s not winter and the temperature is normal May weather in the uk at about 15c. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Dealer tells me they can’t find anything wrong.

My 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe sport has this problem. It’s very frustrating because it intermittently does this, usually on a cold morning below 34. I have taken it in but they can’t replicate the problem. I have to get it towed, miss work and they do not even give me the courtesy of a rental. It’s happened 4 times now, twice it fixed itself- once after popping my trunk it started- weird. Anyway, I am at a point that I am hating this car and dealing with the Hyundai dealership. By the way, they don’t look at it when the problem is occurring. They usually wait and then it warms up so there is no problem. I will warn everybody I know not to but a Hyundai! Should have just bought American!! Hate this car!
