Should the the car turn off if I accidentally hit the ignition switch while driving?

Asked by bloughrannnn Dec 19, 2014 at 04:22 PM about the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SE with Connectivity and Sunroof

Question type: General

I have a push to start Jetta and I accidentally hit the ignition switch while driving and my
car shut off. I was able to restart it without coming to a stop, but the fact that it can turn off
while I'm doing 50 without having to switch to neutral or brake does not seem right. Any
thoughts? Is this normal?

It can stop any time, but the question is, did it restart while in gear, or did you have to slip it into neutral. It would be normal to restart while moving if you slipped into neutral.

think of it like this ... lets say you have a regular key ignition car... if you turn the key back while your driving does it allow the car to shut off? it most certainly does. so i would assume this would also be the same for the push button start car whether it is in gear or not a car can have the shifter moved weather it is on or not.
