Is it possible to put 17.5 gallons in a 2002 Ranger?

I just put 17.5 gallons in my 2002 Ranger and it didn't even have the low fuel warning.  Don't ever recall putting in more than 17 gallons before - I have had the truck for 8 years.  The warning light may not be functioning, as I just had fuel pump replaced. But my first thought was that the station's meter was way out of calibration.

16.5 Gallons is what I found on line. Looks like the gas station could be ripping people off. (Wouldn't be the first time...won't be the last)

If it's a stock tank, it's possible. Don't know how exacting they are... Could also be an aftermarket tank as well if you're not the original owner. There is the possibility of gas station being less than fair. Next time try another gas station (chances of two or three near by ripping off are less likely). Also, think you can go about 300-350 miles on a fill up before running on fumes for average tank.
