my 1999 canadian made gmc jimmy lost oil pressure and engine seized up? why?

the truck ran fine the night before. it wouldnt start and when it did turn over
it felt like it was sputtering. i got it started finally and drove down my street. it
was about a mile into my drive when it got extremelly hot and oil pressure
dropped.
i went to a station by my house to check the oil. it was bone dry. i put a
quart in  and was heading back to my house when the whole car was
seizing up. til it did??

Must have been too low of oil, 1 quart was not enough unless it brought the oil level up to the line on stick. Otherwise oil pump may have went out.

Have you tried to turn motor over by hand at crank, if it will turn over then it may be something else. If it will not turn over by hand pull the spark plugs out and try to turn it over, if it will not turn over squirt some penetrating oil in each cylinder it may come loose (let it work on it a few days.

Also if you have an oil leak or just have not checked you oil, Try to check it more often.
