Engine swap for 1999 Jimmy SLS
Asked by Ron Nov 02, 2024 at 12:40 PM about the 1999 GMC Jimmy 2 Dr SLS Sport 4WD SUV
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 1999 gmc jimmy 4.3 l v6 vortech engine and the engine now knocks
& I want to replace the engine. I found a 2004 Jimmy engine & I am
wondering if it will slide in with no problems.
Will this be a big job to do or will it be like any other engine replacement?
If it wont fit, what other engine years would be compatible other then a 1999
engine?
Thanx Guys.....

Buy a crate motor if you want to keep the truck , Don't replace an old worn motor with an old worn motor , There's no cheap or easy way to go about it
An 2004 will not be a plug and play, if you're going this route, you must find a numbers matching engine so all of the electronics will match what you have now. The best way to go would be to overhaul the stock engine that way nothing has to be modded or dinked with.
beatupchevy : I wish I had the coin to buy a new motor, unfortuneatly, the old worn motor is all I can do . Its either that or just buy another old truck that needs a safety seeing I onl have a few G's to spend.. Gene: Thanx got the info. An overhaul I agree sounds great, but its probably more then I can afford at the moment. Im lookin for the cheapest way to get runnin again, so its either replace the engine or grab another old 4x4. I am lookin at 1997-2001 jimmy's that are being parted out for an engine but so far not much luck seeing all I get is "it was runnin when I parked it & it has no battery so I dont know the milage" which isnt cool...... Appreciate your time & the info shared. Something for me to think about, Thanx guys.....
