99 Jimmy engine question

Asked by Daniel Jan 12, 2017 at 01:45 PM about the 1999 GMC Jimmy 4 Dr SLT 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Jimmy is acting up again... I can
drive it for a while and it's all good
then all of a sudden, if I yet to slow
down, the rpms go up and the engine
revs, truck tries to accelerate .
Breaking is a challenge.  Finally  the
rpms go down and the moment I let
off the break, the rpms jump back up
like I'm trying to race.    It seems to
stick at like between 10- 30 mph.  I'm
worried about it.  Idk if it's a throttle
position sensor or my transmission
or accelerate cable hanging up.  .
Confusing.  Also my engine light is on
but I think it is because of my o2
sensor needing replaced.

You should get the codes read to know for sure. It could be the Throttle Position Sensor, the Idle Air Control, or the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Checking the codes would point you in the right direction. If it is the Idle Air Control, it is very important to clean out the port good, even taking the throttle body off to do it.

This happened to my 2000 Jimmy & found that 2 of my cadlic converters went bad, replaced than $500.00 and now runs purrrrrfect.
