2015 Equinox Start Issues

Asked by Stm_Vann Mar 08, 2018 at 02:51 PM about the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox 1LT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My wife's equinox will not start intermittently.
The car will remote start but when the key is put in
and turned on the engine will shut off. Antitheft
light will illuminate. If not remote stared the key
will turn the vehicle on but will not start. The
engine will not try than the antitheft light will
illuminate.
After multiple trys the car will finally start.
Sometimes the car will start right off first turn or it
will take multiple trys; pulling the key out, checking
shifter to be in park and trying neutral etc.

I put new batteries in both key fobs.
I put a new battery in the car.

There is no correlation with the issue on weather
humidity run time etc. It is completely random at
least from what I can see.

Try a different chipped key. If that doesn't work it may need to be reprogrammed.

What do you mean a different chipped key? From a different car or the spare? Both key's will do the same thing. The only thing I've found is if one key won't work and I try the other it will unlock the system and start, and if I turn it off after starting with the spare and use the other key it will work.

Right but the thing is it will do it either key. It's like the first key used will get locked out

For some reason after remote is used vehicle does not recognize the key when put in ignition. May need to take to the dealer.

Not exactly an option at this point. They're looking to charge $100 to possibly diagnose. Than whatever repairs on top of that if they figure out what it is.

Did you ever find the fix? I have the same problem with my Equinox.

My 2015 Equinox is doing the same thing. Thinking it was the old battery since it was still the original from 2015 and it’s now 2021. I just installed a brand new battery and it still will randomly not start. It will just click. Turn the key the 2nd time and it fires right up! Sometimes it takes 5 times to try and start. Very frustrating
