What paperwork should you ask for to make sure there was a mechanical inspection

In purchasing a car from one of your vendors what paperwork should you ask
for to ensure the car has been mechanically inspected?  What recourse do you
have if you encounter these issues?

A vehicle history report such as Carfax should show if the vehicle was serviced before it was put up for sale. You can also ask for the inspection report and evidence that any needed repairs were done. Such as receipts for parts. Or maybe the bill from the shop that worked on it. Jim
