2015 Sonata, SE, ECO to SPORT mode shift issues!

Asked by surayabay Mar 14, 2018 at 09:45 PM about the 2015 Hyundai Sonata SE FWD

Question type: General

Just got a used, certified, pre-owned,  2015 , Hyundai, Sonata SE, 32-K
miles, nice car, I really like it, except for this!  I've never driven a 'dual
transmission' vehicle before.  While driving at 35 mph, in automatic mode, I
moved the gear shift lever into the manual mode/gate and have an immediate
'deceleration', car slows and almost dies, pressed on accelerator and it got
worse-moved gear shift lever back into automatic mode and it stops?  What
am I doing wrong or is their something else going on?  Do you have to hit the
'(sport/manual) mode button before switching from the (ECO/ Automatic)
mode?  The dealer never mentioned it!  Or is that normal for the RPM's it was
at, at 35 mph when I switched modes?  It happens when ever I switch
modes.  I've only driven the car a few times since purchase!  Dealer and
mechanics sound like they don't have a clue when I called to explain it to
them!  The owners manual isn't all that clear or mention it either!  I'm looking
for an answer from anyone who has experienced this too or what I may be
doing wrong not advice to take it to a dealer if I can avoid that! (no car fax
report was provided at purchase!)  HELP?  Thank you!

Ask to get the car reprogrammed. I think there is an update that will take care of that. I bought my Sonata with 43000 miles on it, and when I had them change the oil, they said they would reprogram it with the software update for free. I told them OK, and my car goes between automatic and manual as smooth as silk. If I take my foot off the gas, it decelerates, but it does it smoothly. If I give it gas, it picks up well, but also very smoothly. It sounds like your going into manual in a lower gear. Mine goes into manual in the same gear. At least it does now.

Bought 2013 used sonata hybrid.. it has been just problems after problem, Dealer are not responsive, cannot even get the date for servicing in Newark California. I still have below 100K mileage transmission warranty but the Hyundai call center say's warranty expired.

@Ramesh If you check your Hyundai warranty, you will see that second owners of the vehicle get a 5 year/60k mile factory warranty. Seems crappy, but different drivers will wear vehicles differently, so I can understand that myself.
