2015 chevy impala horn warning system and how it operates

My newly acquired 2015 Chevy Impala comes with a keyfob, and pushbutton
start. The car honks at me (3 or 4 very quick honks) often, seemingly when
I'm forgetting to turn something off, or I leave the keyfob in the car on
accident, etc. This would be fine but there are times when it does this and
there's no apparent reason, although I'm sure there is. One time I left my
passenger in the car while I went in to a store real quick to get something,
had my driver window down, took the fob with me (also, the car automatically
locks all doors about 15 seconds after I shut the door) when I came back, my
passenger reached over and tried to open the door for me, and the car
honked and the alarm went off wildly. How does this crazy system work? It's
a little embarrassing when your car is constantly honking at you in public and
you look like an idiot. thx

There should be a section in the owners manual on how to enter the menu list and how to program it to do what you want it to do. If you don’t have the manual then get one as there is a lot of information in there that you need. Of course you could try the dealer but they will charge you.

It's actually a good system, luckily u don't live in high crime neighborhood otherwise u would've been glad having such a system. As far as when u left ur passenger in the car, the car doesn't realize u left someone there, after the car stopped detecting the fob, it locked itself up, when door was opened, it detected it as a break in and triggered the alarm,
