step by step oil change procedure and filter replacement Dodge dart 2015 2.4L

Asked by tcards Jan 24, 2018 at 03:02 PM about the 2015 Dodge Dart SXT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just want to be sure that I perform this oil change correctly, while walking my
daughter through it as well. It is her car, and she will soon return to firemen
training up north and I want her to be familiarized with how it is done. so far I
have purchased the oil , sae 0w-20, which is what is listed on the refill cap to
take 5.5 qurts for a 2.4L. Is there anything special I should be aware of?

You may want to go on YouTube and type in how to change oil on the year, make and model and engine size of your vehicle maybe a video showing you each step on changing your oil.

I would go with 5w- 20 , oil needs viscosity to do it's job unless she'll be so far north they don't turn the car off , when it gets brown it should be changed because it'll be darker when it spills out and clean oil is probably the best thing for a car , make sure it's good and warm get it on the ramps get a blanket and two big pans a couple of rags and rubber gloves , get the drain plug out fill one pan up move to to the side get the other pan and drop the oil filter into it wipe the boss where the filter came out put a thin coat of oil on the new filter gasket . make sure the old gasket came out and put the new one in hand tight ,put the drain plug back in snug (20'lbs's), put in the new oil , put the old oil in the empty jug fire it up and look underneath for leaks , it's better than having some goober touch your car or try to sell you something

Step one - open driver's door. Step two - Start vehicle. Step three - Drive to local Dodge dealership. Step four - Leave the vehicle with the service writer. Step five - Pick up vehicle when service is complete. Step six - Drive vehicle home. Doing it this way will make sure the job gets done correctly, it will eliminate having to dispose of the used oil and filter, you hands won't get dirty and the job will be done by someone that is familiar with your Dodge. Most oil changes are very reasonably priced at the dealership. I would avoid the quick lube places and Walmart for this service.

Oil experts are everywhere. You will be doing the right thing in using the grade of oil recommended by the manufacturer. The only difference between a 0w20 and a 5w20 is that the 0w20 flows like a zero weight oil when cold. When at operating temperature both act like a 20 weight oil. I respectfully suggest that "beatupchevy" study up on oil at bobistheoilguy.com. Reading their "Oil 101" write up would be helpful. Go here...https://bobistheoilguy.com/motor-oil-101/
