I'm trying to decide which hatchback is vehicle for
my investment? 1. Golf
                              2. Golf R
                              3. Gti
As far safety, performance, resale value,...etc...

This is what I think: (at a guess) SAFETY: They should be about equal. PERFORMANCE: GTi (surely, right?) RESALE VALUE: I've just done a quick bit of research and found that in Australia (Where I Live) a Golf holds pretty good value compared to many other makes, especially Japanese cars. In terms of the different variants obviously a premium model will have higher resale. They average at about 25/30% higher price when new, this is also reflected in their resale value. So as an investment you will never make money buying a golf, but as I previously said in Australia most Volkswagens hold their value very nicely.
