Engine, Oil and Battery Lights on
Asked by melanie1989 Oct 29, 2018 at 09:51 AM about the 2015 Hyundai Elantra SE FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
A couple times last week, first thing in the morning, I would start my car (started
fine), then put it in reverse and the oil, battery and check engine lights would
come on. The car would not move. I could turn the car off, restart it and it worked
fine.
Yesterday afternoon I discovered my car wouldn't start - the engine would start to
turn but wouldn't start up. The lights in the car did come on. I got a jump start,
took it to NTB and they gave me a new battery - the battery was dead.
I checked that the car would start last night and it worked fine.
This morning, I experienced the same issue with the warning lights (oil, battery,
check engine) coming on when putting the car in reverse. Again I was able to
restart the car and it worked fine.
I'm wondering if there's another issue going on since I replaced the battery but
the issue with the dash warning lights happened again. Any ideas?

@Ed92626 - I just got my oil changed a couple weeks ago. I did mention this to the shop when I got my battery. They seemed confident that the battery was the issue so no need to run a diagnostic check. I'm going to call the dealership now.

Hello Melanie1989, what ended up being the issue?
Are there any updates? I’m currently having this issue as well.

@Jessica I had gotten my battery replaced at a NTB recently. They did not secure the battery so the car was reacting to the battery moving around. There’s a latch that has to be put down to secure the battery. Once the dealer fixed this, I had no more issues.
Im having this problem, but the eps light came on too.
I have a 2013 Elantra
Im having the same problem EPS Light oil light check engine and oil and battery is on
Christian and Jessica did you guys ever figure out the problem? I'm having this same issue
Yes! It is because your engine has no oil in it.

I have the same thing happening but my oils full. I had a diagnostic check and it said cylinders 1 and 4 were misfiring (spark plugs, coils, wire). I changed all of the spark plugs and it’s still happening so I’m going to check the gap (should be at 1.1mm) and if that doesn’t work I’ll try replacing the coils. I’ll update once I can figure it out.
Thank you Ed92626. I’m having the same issue with my 2015 Elantra’s oil, battery, and engine light coming on. In my case it all started 12/23 after I filled my car up. I had Advance run diagnostics test which showed battery and alternator were good. Which lead me to think it’s was bad gas. When the said warning lights came on several days later after driving the car for 3 days with no issues, I began putting the car in Neutral, restarting and it accelerates without turning off. I will take to dealership Monday, if gas treatment and 93 gas doesn’t stop warning lights and stalling.
I’m having same issue. Happened twice and now yesterday my car didn’t start at all. So today I tried starting it, and it worked. Anyone know what to do
I’m having this issue. I have a 2014 Elantra. It has happened 2 times so far. The first time I was able to pull on a side st and used the downhill gravity to get the car to keep moving. When it happened today it was very difficult to get the car pulled over. Same as everyone else, if I turn off then on it works fine.
Did anyone figure out the true problem?
I’m having the exact same issues with my 2012 Elantra. I’ve replaced the alternator 3 times in the past 2 months. I just replaced the spark plugs and fuel filter as well. Could it be an electrical issue from the wiring leaving the spark plugs or alternator?
Hi I am currently having the same problem. I have a 2017 elantra. my oil, engine, battery lights come also my light that is in a shape of a car with a key shape in it. it dies once those lights come on. I put it in park start it back up and it runs just fine. it has happened 5 times since yesterday. I had the battery, alternator, and starter tested. all good. put more oil in just to be sure.
So far the lights have not came on since I changed the oil filter, oil, and air filter.
What is the actual issue? Or is the issue jsut everything possible.

@Guru97BHX get an oil change and check for better at AutoZone , once this happened to me I got my oil changed and later on my whole battery went out. After that you should be fine
